For the second year, McDaniel & Company was a generous sponsor of the 2009 Education Grants Program for Kernersville school teachers. Below is an article written about the event.

On September 29th a "surprise patrol" from the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce visited the classrooms of 22 Kernersville teachers, announcing they had received one of the chamber Education grants. The presentation was done in front of the students who will benefit from the teacher's willingness to go "above and beyond" and seeking funding for new learning techniques.

This year's grant process is a remarkable success story. In a difficult economy, chamber businesses stepped up to contribute to the annual fund raising effort. Knowing we were not likely to raise the necessary funds to ensure one grant per school, 15 member restaurants offered to contribute a portion of their sales from three specific days this summer. Their support put us well over the top. And, another business -- Paper Sassy -- initiated a new arts based grant to the schools. As a result, in a "down year," we provided multiple grants per each school. The same economy that is affecting our businesses also hits our schools as well. What a blessing it was to be able to distribute more support than ever before.

Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament

Here Michael Blevins and Jay Thurlow pause for a quick picture at the Annual Kernersville Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Michael and Jay serve as Chamber Ambassadors and participated in the preparation and serving of food to golfers in the tournament. The Chamber Ambassador group greets new members to the Chamber of Commerce, and helps to retain current members by meeting with each business individually to see if their needs are being met.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

At the Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC, CareNet Counseling of Kernersville holds a ribbon cutting ceremony. Michael Blevins took this picture of everyone posing for the photo. McDaniel & Company has made it a point to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies to stress the importance of new growth in the community.

Every year, our partner Tom McDaniel supports the local Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA). The RYLA is Rotary International’s training program for young people ages 14-18. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth. In this picture, the local RYLA class of 2009 stands in front of Korner’s Folly, a local historic home built in circa 1880 by Jule Korner. The Korner’s Folly is a town icon. One of our partners, Laurie McDaniel, is the Treasurer on the Korner’s Folly Board.

Our Marketing Coordinator, Michael Blevins snapped this picture at a ribbon cutting ceremony for Sign Resources in Kernersville. Small businesses are very important in the community. At McDaniel & Company, we want to support our community.

The McDaniel family group at the Chili championship. The March of Dimes Chili Championship and Rubber Duck Regatta just as much a family event as it is a fundraiser for a wonderful charity to help children.
